The regulator said it is examining what customers were told about the level of compensation they might receive, whether customers were informed they could submit a claim for free, and whether they were pressured into signing up.
The FCA said it has not reached any conclusions on whether TCPA has breached regulatory requirements.
By publicly announcing the investigation, the regulator said it aims to allow customers of TCPA to consider their options.
TCPA was notified of the FCA’s intention to announce the investigation on 1 September 2025. The firm subsequently sought a judicial review of the FCA’s decision to make the investigation public, but this application was dismissed by the High Court in October 2025. Permission to appeal was later refused by the Court of Appeal in December 2025. The High Court’s judgment was published in two parts, with the second released on 2 January 2026.
TCPA advertises motor finance claims and refers potential claimants to law firms for representation. The firm has traded under several names, including My Claim Group, Martin’s Tips, Karen’s Claims, Express PCP and The PCP Guys.
In August 2025, TCPA agreed to a Voluntary Requirements Application with the FCA, under which it was required to stop onboarding new customers, cease publishing new financial promotions and withdraw all existing promotions.
The FCA said its enforcement policy generally avoids publicising investigations but allows for exceptions where it is necessary to protect consumers, prevent widespread misconduct or maintain confidence in the financial system. It said those conditions were met in this case.
The investigation follows increased regulatory scrutiny of the claims management sector. Since January 2024, the FCA said proactive monitoring has resulted in more than 740 misleading adverts by FCA regulated claims management companies being removed or amended.
In October 2025, the FCA also published a consultation on a proposed motor finance consumer redress scheme for customers who may have been treated unfairly. Final rules are expected to be published in February or March 2026.
